Newborn Hats

So with my new baby boy due any day now, I've been on a hat crocheting binge! I love trying out new patterns and playing with colours. Here are a couple of the new hats that I've made:

Love this pattern! It works up so fast, I did each hat in less than an hour. You can find the original pattern and instructions HERE. Or you can follow my instructions below:

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (4)
I used Loops & Threads Impeccable
J/10  6.0mm
Embroidery needle to sew in end

Gauge:
3 rounds = 3.5"

Notes:
You can change colours on any round to make your own pattern.
This pattern uses the "seamless"method. You can find the tutorial HERE.

Abbreviations and Stitches Used:
MC/R - Magic circle/ring TUTORIAL
CH - Chain
ST - Stitch
SP - Space
SL ST - Slip Stitch
Insert hook into st or sp, yarn over and pull through (two loops on hook) continue to pull loop closest to hook through the other loop.
DC - Double Crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook into st or sp, yarn over hook and pull through (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through first two loops, yarn over and pull through last 2 loops (leaving you with one loop on hook).

Instructions for the football variation:

Row 1: Using Brown, MC/R, CH 3, 11 DC, join to top of CH 3. (12 DC)

Row 2: CH 2, skip 1 ST, 2 DC in each ST around. Last 2 DC will be in the ST previously skipped. SL ST into top of first DC to join. (24 DC)

Row 3: CH 2, skip 1 ST, *1 DC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST.  Repeat from * all the way around. Last 2 DC will be in the ST previously skipped. SL ST into top of first DC to join. (36 DC)

Row 4: CH 2, skip 1 ST, *1 DC in each of the next 5 STs, 2 DC in next ST. Repeat from * all the way around. Last 2 DC will be in the ST previously skipped. SL ST into top of first DC to join. (42 DC)

Colour change to White for Row 5.

Row 5: CH 2, skip 1 ST, 1 DC in each ST around. Last DC will be in the ST previously skipped. SL ST into top of first DC to join. (42 DC)

Colour change to Brown for Rows 6-9.

Row 6: Repeat row 5 five more times for a total of 10 rows. Colour change to White for last Row (row 10).

7. Do NOT join with SL ST to finish. Instead use THIS method for a professional finish.

Using your embroidery/yarn needle and your White yarn, stitch in the football laces and tie off.

I hope you enjoy making this pattern! Lots of fun variables... I'd love to see some other versions, so please share your projects!
